KAMPALA, Uganda — Health advocates have criticized the United States’ decision to impose visa restrictions on Ugandan officials, arguing it undermines the country’s efforts in combating the Ebola outbreak.

Uganda has been at the forefront of Ebola response in the region, with health workers risking their lives to contain the virus. Critics say the visa bans send the wrong message.

“Punishing those fighting a deadly disease is counterproductive,” said one public health expert. “We need support, not sanctions.”
