ABYEI ADMINISTRATIVE AREA – The Abyei Administrative Area is currently providing shelter and support to more than 4,000 individuals displaced from the neighboring Ruweng Administrative Area. These individuals sought refuge following recent outbreaks of violence in Ruweng earlier this month.

Authorities in Abyei have been swift in allocating land for new settlements and ensuring the displaced population receives necessary assistance. Abyei Minister of Information Yohana Akol confirmed that the local administration is working in close coordination with Non-Governmental Organizations (NGOs) operating in the region to provide essential aid, humanitarian services, and facilitate integration for those affected by the conflict.

The displacement highlights the ongoing security challenges in the region and the urgent need for humanitarian support. The displaced persons, including women and children, are receiving emergency assistance including food, shelter materials, and medical care.

Humanitarian agencies on the ground have praised the Abyei administration’s rapid response and commitment to protecting vulnerable populations fleeing violence. The situation remains fluid as authorities continue to monitor security conditions and provide support to the displaced communities.
