ENTEBBE, Uganda — Kenyan opposition leader Martha Karua was denied entry into Uganda as she traveled to support the legal team of detained Kampala Mayor Erias Lukwago.

Immigration officials at Entebbe International Airport stopped Karua, citing unspecified security concerns. The incident has drawn condemnation from human rights groups across East Africa.

Karua, a senior counsel, had been part of Lukwago’s defense team following his arrest on treason charges.
