AU High-Level Ad-Hoc Committee of Five visits Juba to evaluate implementation of revitalized peace agreement and assess election readiness
By EAC Post Staff | March 7, 2026
The African Union High-Level Ad-Hoc Committee of Five (C5) on South Sudan has concluded a two-day visit to Juba to evaluate the implementation of the revitalized peace agreement and review preparations for December 2026 elections.
The delegation met with President Kiir, opposition leaders, and civil society representatives to assess the political climate and security situation ahead of the planned polls.
Committee Findings
While official findings have not been released, sources close to the delegation indicate serious concerns about the feasibility of holding elections amid ongoing conflict and displacement.
Way Forward
The AU is expected to present recommendations to the Peace and Security Council in the coming weeks, potentially including proposals for extending the transitional period or implementing confidence-building measures before elections.
